Texas

The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains region of Texas. At this time, 159 cases have been identified since late January. Twenty of the patients have been hospitalized. There has been one fatality in a school-aged child who lived in the outbreak area. The child was not vaccinated.

Counties affected: Dallam (4), Dawson (9), Ector (2), Gaines (107), Lubbock (3), Lynn (2), Martin (3), Terry (22), Yoakum (7).

Vaccine Status of Confirmed Cases:

  • Vaccinated with at least 1 dose of MMR: 5
  • Unvaccinated: 80
  • Status Unknown: 74

  • 0-4 years: 53
  • 5-17 years: 74

New Mexico

The New Mexico Department of Health (NMDOH) is reporting an outbreak of measles in Lea County, near Gaines County, Texas. Because measles is so contagious, additional cases are likely to occur in Lea County and the surrounding communities. At this time, there have been 9 cases identified.

New Jersey

On February 14, 2025, NJDOH reported a single laboratory confirmed case of measles in a Bergen County resident with recent international travel. On February 20, NJDOH reported two secondary cases of measles both of whom had close contact with the index case. The individuals had been under quarantine, minimizing any additional potential exposures. All three cases associated with this situation are unvaccinated.

California

February 25 — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been notified of one case of measles in a non-Los Angeles County resident who traveled to Los Angeles International (LAX) airport while infectious. This person arrived on Korean Air flight KAL11/KE11 at the Tom Bradley International Airport (TBIT) Terminal B on February 19th.

Georgia

February 7, 2025 — The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed two additional measles cases in unvaccinated metro Atlanta residents. These two cases are family members of the case confirmed earlier this year in January. 

Alaska

January 21, 2025 — The Alaska Department of Health confirmed a measles case last week in an adult on the southern Kenai Peninsula. The unvaccinated adult developed symptoms of the extremely contagious, but preventable viral infection earlier this month while traveling to Alaska from overseas, according to the public health alert.
