Vaccinations and Equity

Awele Maduka-Ezeh, MD, MPH, PhD, CCHP is the Medical Director of the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, Division of Public Health. Dr. Maduka-Ezeh earned her Medical Doctorate from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria in 2000, a Master of Public Health from Harvard University in 2005 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia in 2009. In 2011, she completed a clinical fellowship in infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic. She earned a PhD in Disaster Science & Management from the University of Delaware in 2020.

Influenza Immunization Update | H5 Bird Flu: Current Situation

Andrew Kroger, MD, MPH, is a medical officer for the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As one of the traveling trainers in the Communication and Education Branch, Dr. Kroger has given multiple presentations on topics ranging from immunization updates to pandemic influenza preparedness. Most notably, Dr. Kroger is the author of the newest edition of the CDC’s General Best Practice Guidelines for Immunization Dr. Kroger trained in pediatrics for two years at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland before transferring to Emory University where he specialized in public health and preventive medicine. He received joint Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees from Yale Medical School and Yale University School of Epidemiology and Public Health with a concentration in international health.

Vaccines for Pregnant People

Matthew K. Hoffman, MD, is the Marie E. Pinizzotto, MD, Endowed Chair of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, and the Director for the Center for Women and Children’s Health Research at Christiana Care, where he oversees one of the largest obstetrical services in the nation. He is a researcher known nationally and internationally for his work on the prevention of preterm birth, and has published over ninety research articles.

Vaccination is Cancer Prevention

Gabrielle Darville – Sanders, PhD, MPH, CHES is the Strategic Director of the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable at the American Cancer Society. In this role, she oversees the implementation and evaluation of activities, projects, and day-to-day operations in support of the HPV Roundtable’s mission. Dr. Darville-Sanders has been involved in HPV research, promotion, and practice throughout her professional career.

Vaccine Confidence & Uptake

Jonathan Miller, MD is the Chief of Delaware Valley Primary Care and the Association Program Director of Pediatric Residency for Nemours Children’s Health. He attended medical school at Johns Hopkins University and completed his residency at the Yale-New Haven Medical Center Program. He is board certified in pediatrics and was awarded the Immunization Champion Award from the Association of Immunization Managers (AIM) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2023.

Arboviral Diseases: Updates in Dengue & Chikungunya Vaccines

Marci Drees, MD is the Chief Infection Prevention Officer and has been the hospital epidemiologist for ChristianaCare since 2007. She completed her medical training at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and Tufts Medical Center, and served for 2 years as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer with the CDC, stationed with the Delaware Department of Public Health. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

Vaccine Updates: Meningococcal and Pneumococcal Vaccines

Stephen C. Eppes, MD earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa and completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Eppes specializes in pediatric infectious diseases at ChristianaCare Health System. He is active on many ChristianaCare committees, and serves as the Vice Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, the Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and the Associate Infection Prevention Officer. He serves on the emeritus staff at Nemours Children’s Hospital – Delaware, and has received numerous teaching wards. Dr. Eppes is co-Chair of the Immunization Coalition of Delaware.
